You Think You Know Clarinet Music?
Think Again.

...All Hail the Clarinet God Nick Gallas...

Last Updated May 9
Okay, I'm not going to spend this entire shrine harping on how well he plays the clarinet, because there's more to him than that. ^_^ In case you're wondering, that's his picture in the background. ^_^

Nick is a senior in the Class of 2002 - he graduates in a few weeks.
In fact, last night he won an award from our music department!  Congratulations!

Here's everything you need to know, at a glance, about our resident favorite fellow:

Birthday: Sept. 3, 1984
Favorite Thing to Do:
Attending: Cleveland Institute of Music
Major: Clarinet Performance
Where do you want to be in 10 years?  "Playing up a storm and having a ball."
What words of wisdom do you have to offer? "Take everything you do and the people you do it with seriously.  But don't take yourself too seriously.  There's always room to learn more and have more fun."

Now that I'm done obsessing....
^_^ Hahaha.

Fun Things About Nick:
(Please take these in the spirit they are given)

~ I love him dearly, but he drives like a grandma. ^_^ Naturally, my mom is happy about this, something about riding with quote-unquote "responsible teenage drivers".  It's adorable to see him driving, both hands perched at the top of the steering wheel, checking to make sure he's in reverse before he backs out of the parking lot; stuff that you tend to not notice when riding with parents, because they just don't do it. o_O   ^_^ But seriously; after my Jess-love, he's the most fun to ride with, and I thank him for the rides home.

~ He's an inspiring musician.  Now, I know, I know, I promised not to harp on the clarinet stuff, but that really is Nick's life.  ^_^ He's so happy when he's got his clarinet and is making music.  To add to the clarinet, he was also the guy who stood next to me this year in madrigals (whee!), he sang Tenor I in the men's quartet, and he was in the concert choir.  Huzzah!

~ Um.  Let's see.  That didn't really talk about how he was an inspiring musician.  He is so knowledgeable, so polite - when he offers advice, he makes it seem like what you're doing isn't wrong, per se, but that the way he's suggesting would make it easier.  He almost never gets upset, about anything, and he's always right (when I'm around) when it comes to questions of tempo and articulation and good stuff like that.

~ He ROCKS at Frisbee.  There must be a gene in the Gallas family that makes the children Frisbee Gods, because both of Nick's brothers are also excellent Ultimate Frisbee players.  And when he's playing Frisbee, it's like there's this totally other person there. When he's with his friends, away from school and all the pressures that entails, it's so neat.  He seems so... happy.

~ Girls are lined up around the block.  Twice.  To go to prom with him.  I confess that I am one of them.  Er, was one.  Kathy Lutz is the lucky one he said yes to.  Prom is Saturday, so congratulations! *smile*
